Bug Style (バグスタイル) is one of MegaMan.EXE's Style Changes in the Mega Man Battle Network series. This style is notable by the yellow squares on MegaMan's body and a darker color for his element body.
Appearances
Mega Man Battle Network 3
The Bug Style can be attained by continuous virus busting with any bug from improperly placed Navi Customizer programs. Players may change what bug is affecting MegaMan at any time, just as long as they have a bug for their battles. MegaMan will start the battle with any 2 positive bugs and any 1 negative bug. The bugs are chosen from the following pools.
Positive Bugs:
- First Barrier 100: MegaMan starts the battle with a 100 HP barrier.
- Invincibility: MegaMan starts the battle with an invincible, green glow as if Fanfare is being used.
- Custom 10: MegaMan starts the battle with all ten Custom slots filled with chips, regardless of NCPs.
- MAX Buster: MegaMan starts the battle with MAX Buster stats (5/5/5).
Negative Bugs:
- Self Movement: MegaMan will move on his own, depending on the version of the glitch, he will either be dragged up or down constantly.
- Battle HP Drain: MegaMan's HP will drain when on the battlefield.
- Custom HP Drain: MegaMan's HP will drain while in the Custom Screen.
- Buster Blank:
- Original version: Due to a glitch in the game code, if this bug is selected, it won’t function and MegaMan shoots as normal. Intended behavior is there is a 3/8 chance of shooting blanks[1].
- Legacy Collection: When MegaMan tries to shoot with his Mega Buster, there is a 3/8 chance it will shoot nothing.
- Bug Style can use gray Navi Customizer Programs without errors.
| Style Level | NCP Name | Color | Description | Battles to Obtain | Cumulative Battles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | Bug Stop | White | MegaMan does not receive bugs from the Navi Customizer. However, programs like Undershirt or Press still need to be placed on the command line. Otherwise they do nothing. BugStop will also negate 'HubBatch' NCP's halved HP side effect. | 120 | 120 |
| 3 | Dark License | Gray | Allows for the use of Bass, Bass+, Serenade, and DarkAura without need of a Dark Hole panel. | 200 | 320 |

MegaMan NT Warrior anime
In the anime, Bug style has the visual of AquaBug style, this style's actually element is not mentioned in the series. Bug Style was first conceived when MegaMan was infected with a bug due to his contact with Bass. While it wasn't apparent at first, the bug began to infest and corrupt MegaMan's system, weakening him and preventing him from fighting properly with MagnetMan during the Virus Beast's rampage. In a last act of desperation, Lan and MegaMan agreed to deploy the EX Code to achieve Aqua Custom Style, which allowed them to defeat MagnetMan, but exhausted MegaMan's power to fight the bugs infecting his system. The bug reacted powerfully with MegaMan's Style Change ability and created the unique BugStyle, which endowed MegaMan with a monstrous strength on par with the Virus Beast, including the bug's natural power: data consumption. Unable to control his power, MegaMan became an even bigger threat than the Virus Beast and nearly consumed the internet.
MegaMan NT Warrior manga
Bug Style makes a small cameo during the Dark Power incident and is not directly named. It occurs as MegaMan's program is undergoing a fundamental revision, adapting to the program Serenade secretly installed in him during their battle (the Double Soul system). During this phase, MegaMan exhibits incredible power, including the ability to warp across major distances in spite of massive injuries. This style disappears immediately after the final battle against the remnants of the Dark Quartet.
Trivia
- Although the Navi mark on Bug Style is blue on the artwork, in the game the Navi mark is red in sprites of all elements.
- Due to a production error, Bug Style's artwork was also included in the instruction booklet for Mega Man Network Transmission, despite Styles officially not existing during the game's story (as it takes place before Battle Network 2). Styles are only briefly referenced during the epilogue in an article written by Dr. Hikari.
- In addition, the manuals for Mega Man Network Transmission and Mega Man Battle Network 3 erroneously use Bug Style's artwork to represent ProtoMan.EXE when introducing the main characters.
