- "Ware wa meshia nari! Hahahaha! (我はメシアなり!はーっはっはっは!, "I am the Messiah! Hahahaha!")"
- —Omega's pre-battle boast.
Omega (オメガ Omega) is the main antagonist and final boss of Mega Man Zero 3. He is a Reploid created by Dr. Weil as an ultimate Reploid meant to end the Maverick Wars. He fought in the Elf Wars but was defeated by X and Zero, leading to him being exiled to space, until he returned to once again serve Dr. Weil.[2]
Omega also appears as a secret boss in Mega Man ZX, granting the player access to Biometal Model O.
Appearance
In his main body, Omega is a giant Reploid with knight-like armor and a long coat. His armor is white and black with red highlights, and his arms are sharp claws that are detached from his shoulders and float around his body. His helmet features a black visor that covers his entire face, with a scowling mouth carved below. He has long pink hair from the top of the helmet that reaches his feet. He wears a gigantic beam saber on his back that is normally coated in metal. Upon absorbing the Dark Elf, his color scheme changes to gold and black with blue highlights.
Hidden within Omega's torso is his true form: the original body of Zero. It looks exactly the same as Zero's replacement body in the Mega Man Zero series, but with a slightly darker red color, pale hair, and a purple saber. Interestingly, Omega's ponytail does not emerge from his helmet until he summons it before his boss battle.
Personality
Omega is a brutal monster who is known by the title of the God of Destruction,[1] and represents Zero's worst traits without the heroic personality he developed to temper them. At first, Omega is depicted as Dr. Weil's mindless servant. He is totally obedient to Weil, reverently addressing him as Lord Weil, and exhibits no desires of his own. He rarely speaks in anything but growls and roars, like a beast. Weil claims he had developed a grudge against Zero and X for defeating him in the first place. Before fighting Zero in Weil's lab, he laughs and calls Zero by name.
Once his true form is revealed, Omega shows his true colors as a megalomaniacal villain in his own right, with a god complex. He doubtlessly believes in Weil's insane purpose for him, and when he speaks his first full sentence, he declares himself a Messiah and laughs maniacally. Rather than a mindless beast, Omega instead imitates Zero's evil persona in his Awakened form, or the berserk killing machine he was before Sigma defeated him. He values the Dark Elf for her power, showing concern when she is reverting back to the Mother Elf. In response to Zero calling Omega his "slave", Weil objects. He claims that Omega is a "bloodthirsty god of destruction" and that he merely upgraded his body, implying that Weil has no true control over Omega, and that he merely works with Weil for the sake of spreading destruction.
In Mega Man X DiVE, Omega's personality is expanded on further. Not only does he see himself as a literal Messiah, but he strongly believes himself to be the real Zero. Despite being a different mind inhabiting Zero's original body, he is unable to comprehend how other characters speak of Zero as a separate person.
History
Elf Wars
Dr. Weil first conceived of Omega during the Maverick Wars, planning an "Ultimate Reploid" that could resist the effects of the Sigma Virus to be used as a superweapon[2][3]. Dr. Weil took Zero's dormant body (his cognitive program having been removed) and inserted a new personality with a god complex called Omega inside. Omega was then placed into a giant body to constrain his power.[4] After the war's end, a group of humans (which included Weil) started "Project Elpizo", a plan to subjugate all the Reploids to the Mother Elf's power. This would prevent another war from ever happening again. However, the project stalled due to X's opposition. In response, Dr. Weil secretly turned the Mother Elf into the Dark Elf and created Baby Elves to make Reploids fight, starting the Elf Wars.[5] The battles raged on for years, eventually leading to Project Elpizo's approval.[6]

Under Dr. Weil's orders, Omega entered the front-lines of the Elf Wars to lead armies using the Dark Elf, causing immense destruction and shedding innocent blood in his conquest.[7] Meanwhile, Zero's cognitive program was inserted into a replacement body, and he and X fought against Omega to stop him. Using a Final Strike, X and Zero defeated Omega before ending the Elf Wars, though he was not destroyed.[8] In the aftermath of the Elf Wars, Omega was sealed within the Forbidden Ark and exiled to space, trapped in orbit around the Earth.[9]
Mega Man Zero 2
After the renegade Resistance commander Elpizo released the Dark Elf from its prison in Yggdrasil, Omega was contacted by Dr. Weil, who informed him that it was time to take their revenge.
Mega Man Zero 3
Omega fights Fefnir and Leviathan.
Two months after the Dark Elf's release, Omega's Forbidden Ark exited orbit and crashed into a frozen tundra. His energy signature resembled the Dark Elf's, drawing in both the Resistance and Neo Arcadia to investigate. Fighting Fefnir, Fairy Leviathan, and several Pantheons discovered Omega and engaged him in battle, but he defeated all of them. When Omega sensed Zero's presence outside, he called out to him until he reached his chamber. Omega was damaged by Zero but quickly recovered, and was next faced with Sage Harpuia. However, Dr. Weil arrived to break up the fight and reintroduce Copy X MK. II. Once Copy X took control of Neo Arcadia back from Harpuia, he allowed Omega and Weil to reside there while they sought the Dark Elf together.
A race to locate and capture the Dark Elf broke out between Neo Arcadia and the Resistance. Since Omega's return from space, mysterious portals to Cyberspace had emerged which made it possible for Zero to freely travel between the real world and the digital world.[10] Harpuia protested against Copy X's decision to allow Omega and Dr. Weil back into Neo Arcadia, but was swiftly reprimanded and demoted.
When the Dark Elf was located in Area Z-3079, Omega was transported to the Aegis Volcano Base and loaded into a missile to capture her. The Resistance, which intercepted transmissions about the missile, sent Zero to halt the missile. Though he didn't make it in time to stop the launch, Zero boarded the missile to stop Omega, who was at that time immobilized within. However, Zero was intercepted by Crea and Prea, who held Zero off long enough for the missile to reach its destination. The missile killed many innocent people and devastated the area, and Omega successfully absorbed the Dark Elf, gaining a new golden color. Harpuia, who couldn't watch anymore, turned against Copy X and tried to fight Omega, but he was no match for him. Omega moved to kill Zero and Harpuia, but the Resistance teleported them away just in time.
Dr. Weil modifying Omega to fulfill Project Elpizo.
When Copy X was defeated by Zero in Neo Arcadia, he called out for Dr. Weil to send Omega - however, Cyber-elf X informed him that Omega and Weil had no intention of saving him. This led to Copy X trying to access his final form to defeat Zero, which triggered Weil's trap and killed him, allowing Weil to assume control of Neo Arcadia. From here, Weil began modifying Omega so that he could use the Dark Elf's power to enact Project Elpizo.
Once Omega finally took control of all Reploids, Weil transmitted a message boasting about his victory. Omega forced the Resistance's Reploids to turn on Zero and Ciel (who were unaffected due to his anti-viruses and her humanity, respectively), but X used his power to shut them down and give Zero a chance to face Omega.
When Zero infiltrated Weil's Research Laboratory, Dr. Weil made the Dark Elf-infused Omega attack him, but he lost. Enraged by his defeat, Omega released the powers of the Dark Elf within him, transforming him into a strange fusion of himself, X and Zero, armed with a giant saber and a buster cannon. However, Zero defeated him again, shattering him into debris.
Omega reveals his true form.
Omega's remains and Zero fell through the floor, landing in the same abandoned laboratory where Zero was awoken by Ciel. Weil revealed Omega's secret: that Zero's body was nothing more than a copy, while Omega inhabited the real Zero's body. Omega emerged, looking exactly like Zero, and the two did battle once more. Despite his impressive power and genuine body, Omega was defeated by Zero again.
However, the battle wasn't over yet, as Omega summoned the Dark Elf to heal his wounds. The remaining three Guardians appeared to assist Zero, striking Omega as he healed. The Dark Elf began to blink back into the Mother Elf, fighting the curse Weil had placed on her. X also appeared, telling Zero that while Omega may have possessed the original body, Zero retained the original soul. Zero regained his strength to deliver the final blow, destroying Omega for good, resulting in a massive explosion that only Zero himself survived due to the protection of the Mother Elf. In the end, replacement body or not, Zero was still Zero.
Mega Man Zero 4
Omega has a brief cameo appearance in Mega Man Zero 4, in a flashback by Neige when describing Weil's actions in Neo Arcadia forcing her and her caravan to flee which was taken from Weil's speech upon using Omega and the Dark Elf to control all reploids.
Mega Man ZX
Omega in Mega Man ZX.
Omega's Zero body appears as an optional boss in Area N. No explanation is given for his reappearance. The background of his arena reflects an image of the ruins of Omega and Zero's last encounter, and its resemblance to Zero Space implies that he is a digital reproduction of Omega from cyberspace.
By defeating Omega on any difficulty besides Easy, the player gains access to a Mysterious Rock. Upon completing the main story, Fleuve can make it into Model O. It is a secret Biometal whose Megamerge makes Vent/Aile directly mimic Omega's armor and grants them several of the special attacks that Omega uses as a boss. It is implied that the Biometal signature Flammole the Moleroid was trying to excavate was actually Model O.[11]
Forms and Abilities
First form
Omega's first form is his knight-like external frame, his most recognizable form. He can fire lasers from his torso, and his claws can detach from his body and fire ring projectiles. He is incredibly durable, as the combined might of Fefnir and Leviathan could barely harm him, and Zero was only able to briefly stun him.
After absorbing the Dark Elf, Omega received a power boost along with the potential to control all Reploids on the planet at once. He is stronger and faster and finally chooses to wield the saber he wears on his back.
In Mega Man Zero Collection, Omega's hitboxes are altered, meaning the player must now attack higher on Omega's torso to cause damage to him instead of simply attacking from the ground. Omega's invincibility timer is increased slightly, so the player can only do two attacks before the timer takes effect.
| Attack | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hoop Shot | Omega's arms will detach from his body and strafe the room, firing large energy shots resembling lines of rings. | The right arm hovers over the battlefield and fires downward, and the left arm moves up and down on the right side of the screen, firing lasers that can be dodged by jumping over or dashing under them (depending on their height). The claws and lasers move faster in the second encounter. |
| Omega Laser | Omega will spawn three lasers in front of his torso. | The lasers will hit three certain spots (near him, at the back of the room and halfway between) and reflect off of them. The trajectory is faster in the second encounter. |
| Piercing Sword | Omega will draw his saber and hover it over the battlefield, trying to line it up with Zero. Periodically, he will slam his saber into the ground - the third and final strike will send debris everywhere. | Only used in the second encounter. |
Second form
Omega takes this form using the full power of the Dark Elf. With three heads (Dark Elf's, X's and Zero's), a sword so massive that the entire blade can't be seen, and a colossal cannon, Omega is a far more formidable opponent. The monster's only weak point is the central head, a relatively small target. Despite these new abilities, this form still pales in comparison to the final form.
| Attack | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spark Chaser | Omega will summon a laser that follows the player's horizontal path and only turns 90 degrees. | |
| Triple Laser | Omega will fire lasers from the eyes on each of his three heads (the X head fires farthest, the Dark Elf head fires middle-length, and the Zero head fires shortest). | |
| Exceed Buster | Omega will fire three huge energy shots in a row. | Supposed to be dodged with a dash-boosted jump. Can be dodged more easily with a charged Recoil Rod or a double jump. |
| Exceed Buster Neo | Omega will fire a laser beam. | Dash to dodge. |
| Binding Ball | Omega will summon a red sphere, following and trapping Zero. | If Zero is caught, it will drag Zero back to him, dissipating when it touches Omega. |
Third form
Resting inside the central head of Omega's previous form is Zero's original body, upgraded by Weil to draw out its full power. With a full three health bars, he is just as, if not more, dangerous as his other forms.
Omega is an aggressive opponent who often rushes Zero to attack. He wields a Buster Shot identical to Zero's and a purple version of the Z-Saber (called O-Buster and O-Saber, respectively). He uses some of Zero's attacks from the Mega Man X series.
Omega's saber attacks have unique hit priority that ignore the player's invincibility frames when they are damaged, meaning his Ranbu and Triple Slash combo can still damage the player. This also applies to the invincibility of the Shadow Dash chip and Model P's Overdrive, and even invincibility cheats. He will also utilize certain techniques to counter Zero's movement, such as Ryuenjin to hit Zero while jumping.
However, his attacks can be exploited. Most of his ground-based attacks require him to stand still, giving a small period where he can be attacked, as he cannot change orientation mid-attack. This is most optimally done when Omega is performing his Double Charge Wave or the standard Triple Slash combo. He can also be stunned frequently when hitting him in the air, such as after he executes Ryuejin or when he executes Arc Wave.
In the Elf Wars drama track, Zero mentioned gaining an epiphany that his powers were meant for defending his friends rather than destruction after fighting "the other [Zero]," implying that Omega at some point in the war fought Zero in the latter's original body, before being outfitted with the armor.
Mega Man ZX
Omega operates identically to his final form in Mega Man Zero 3, but with some lethal differences. This Omega has little to no attack delay and is thus much faster and more aggressive. He also cannot be stunned as frequently. His Rekkoha heals him by 8 units of health and his EX Skill: Ranbu is one of his base moves. More often than not, Omega will also chain multiple Ranbu lunges in order to close the distance between him and the player. On Hard Mode, Ranbu is capable of killing the player instantly. However, like his previous incarnation, he is viable to being attacked from behind while performing grounded attacks and can be more easily stunned while in the air.
| Attack | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Triple Slash (トリプルスラッシュ) |
The regular attack, a 3-hit O-Saber combo. | |
| Charge Saber (チャージセイバー) |
Omega slams the ground with the charged O-Saber, causing rubble to fall from above. | |
| Arc Blade (アークブレード) |
Omega spins in the air with the O-Saber, sending crescent waves in seven directions. | |
| Double Charge Wave (ダブルチャージウェーブ) |
Omega fires two charged shots from his O-Buster, followed by a crescent wave from the O-Saber. | This attack was first used by Zero during the X-Hunters Incident. |
| Ryuenjin (龍炎刃) |
Omega does a rising slash with the O-Saber. | This attack was learned by Zero during the Great Repliforce War. |
| Messenkou (滅閃光) |
Omega pounds the ground, unleashing a spread shot in five directions. | This attack was learned by Zero during the Eurasia Incident. |
| Rekkoha (裂光覇) |
Omega pounds the ground, summoning vertical beam pillars to surround him, rendering him briefly invulnerable. |
|
| EX Skill: Ranbu (乱舞, "Wild Dance") |
Omega lunges at the opponent and executes a deadly 7-hit combo with his saber. If Zero successfully dashes underneath him just as Omega leaps, Omega will simply turn around while still trying to connect the attack. | Omega's Ranbu, slowed down

Musical themes
His primary theme, "Exiled One - Omega -", is a dark and repetitive theme, featuring chants in the background. The pitch of the chants and quality vary between the soundtrack and the GBA version. In the former, they are a deep pitch, while in the GBA version, they're higher pitched, though still ominous in nature. His boss theme, "Omega Battle", starts off with a drawn out chord before having a faster-paced version of Exiled One as the main theme, which either has electronic boops (GBA) or electrical guitars (soundtrack).
As Fusion Omega, his boss theme is "Judgment Day", features tense drum beats and percussions with strings, done together to form a tense military march, before dipping down to a low pitch rumbling and then rising back in pitch to a march before looping.
Omega Zero's boss theme is Cannonball, which is a tense, chaotic theme accompanied with electric guitar. Its remix in ZX, known as Cannonball - Hard Revenge -, starts off with a tense melody before picking up to a more high-pitched and techno version of the main theme from MMZ3. The theme that is used when Omega's true form is unveiled as well as X's recollections of Omega's first defeat by him and Zero, known as Apocalypse Now, features pipe organs playing in a tense and ominous manner as well as slight vocalizations, as well as violins nearing the end.
Other appearances
Omega appeared as Battle Memory in Rockman Xover.

Rockman Zero manga
Omega in the manga.
In Rockman Zero, Omega is an entirely different character. He is a normal-sized Reploid working for Dr. Weil, tasked with finding the Dark Elf. During his search, he fights against the new Zero in a village and is defeated. Omega attempts to defeat Zero several times, with no success. Because of his failures, Weil gives Omega the Giant Omega-DX to help him defeat Zero, but warns him that if he is not done with it in three days, he will be fired. When Omega's giant robot is destroyed, he is fired and wanders around the village. Later, Zero saves him from Noble Mandrago, but Omega is not happy to see Zero, as he is the responsible for his current situation. He is last seen trying to defeat a "Dark Elf possessed" Zero (Zero being actually "drunken" because of cola), but Zero defeats Omega by running over him with Neige's car.
Despite their rivalry, Omega and Zero team up to survive against several "zombie" Reploids. Omega has a great fear of zombies, even panicking when he sees Weil's face and confuses him with a zombie. Zero also helped Omega build the Giant Omega-DX, not knowing its purpose was to destroy him, but as Zero didn't do his work properly, ignoring several parts, it resulted in the robot's destruction and Omega being fired.

Concept and creation
Early concept art of Omega.
Omega's early designs resembled a sarcophagus, with his true Zero body sealed within. The sarcophagus was designed like a giant Mechaniloid with several Ω shaped parts and a Cyber-elf-like glow at the head. When the final form appears, the sarcophagus splits down the middle, and the true Omega awakens from his slumber.[12]
In the background of Omega's final battle, a W-shaped piece of rubble is stuck in the Zero head, representing Dr. Wily. On the right, L-shaped rubble is stuck in the X head, representing Dr. Light.
Coincidentally, the Sonic the Hedgehog series also has a character by this name, his full designation being E-123 Omega. Both characters are created by a scientist voiced by Chikao Otsuka (E-123 Omega by Dr. Eggman, and Omega by Dr. Weil).
Etymology
- Omega (capital: Ω, lowercase: ω) is the 24th and last letter of the Greek alphabet, mirroring that "Z" (for Zero) is the last letter of the Latin alphabet. The letter "Ω" is also roughly equivalent to the letter "O" in the Latin alphabet, which greatly resembles the numeral "0". Furthermore, Dr. Weil and Zero both emphasize Omega's title as the original Zero (オリジナルゼロ orijinaru Zero) in both English and Japanese, implying that his name's "O" may stand for "original" as well.[13][14]
Trivia
- An uppercase omega "Ω" is used as the boss logo throughout the first three games of the Mega Man Zero series. This refer to the Neo Arcadia mark which may have inspired Omega's name.
- Omega's Zero form only speaks with a dialogue box once in the entire game, after his defeat. He uses a direct copy of Zero's dialogue portrait, but with slightly different colors including red eyes.
- Omega is the only final boss in the Mega Man Zero series with three phases; Copy X, Elpizo, and Dr. Weil all have two phases each.
- However, Omega is also the only final boss with only one EX Skill that he only has in his final form, the other final bosses have an EX Skill in each form.
- Omega is one of two characters in the Mega Man franchise to appear as both the first boss and final boss of a game, the other being Sigma in Mega Man X5.
