―Punk, Mega Man & Bass database

Punk (パンク Panku) is the second of the "Mega Man Killer" robots created by Dr. Wily to destroy Mega Man. He can attack by folding into a compact ball and using his numerous blades and spikes to deal major damage to foes by ramming into them, but can also use his Special Weapon, the Screw Crusher, to hurl spinning blades and deal crushing blows from a distance.

He is a very tough boss, as he causes a lot of damage and none of the weapons from Mega Man III besides the Mega Buster work on him. However, in Mega Man V, his attacks and defenses are weaker. He reappears as one of the downloadable bosses in Mega Man 10, alongside his fellow "Mega Man Killers" Enker and Ballade.

Punk believes in his strength, and enjoys fighting his opponents on equal terms to prove it. He is rebellious, following his own path in life and refusing to obey figures of authority, such as parent-teacher associations, but is somewhat susceptible to being easily misled by other people. In fitting with his punk rocker-like appearance, Punk likes to collect and wear spiked accessories. Turbo Man does not get along well with him, most likely due to the Mega Man Killer's numerous sharp attachments posing a threat to his tires.

Appearance

Punk has a black body, red body, purple eyes, red gauntlets with each of them having spikes and a yellow end, red spherical shoulders, large red shoulder pads with three spikes on each of them and red feet.

Mega Man III

Punk debuts as this game's Mega Man Killer, and becomes available to fight in the Wily Castle after the second wave Robot Masters (the ones from Mega Man 4) are defeated. In a cutscene, Mega Man catches up with Dr. Wily, though the latter walks offscreen. Mega Man tries to give chase, but is caught off-guard by the whole castle shaking. Punk reveals himself by busting out of the floor in his spike form, and challenges Mega Man to a duel before falling down the hole he created. Mega Man falls down to a hidden room, where Punk busts out of the ceiling with violent force, ready to fight.

Attack Pattern

Punk is more straightforward and simple compared to his comrade, Enker. However, he is more violent and he hits the hardest out of any opponent, making him one of the more difficult bosses to get accustomed to. Punk's main attack is to curl into a compact spike ball (in which he is invincible) and bounce up and down in place, getting ready to charge. Eventually, Punk will charge forward to the other side of the room. He will charge in either a low or high elevation, which require the player to jump over or slide under him respectively. This attack is very deadly because it can kill Mega Man in just 3 hits and gives very little reaction time, along with the timing of when the attack comes out being difficult to anticipate (thanks to Punk bouncing up and down). Once Punk reaches the other wall, he gets out of spike form and starts jumping up and down in place. For each jump, he will throw out a Screw Crusher, a spinning blade. The Screw Crusher is aimed in the player's general direction and can go either straight or in 2 types of diagonal angles. Punk always jumps 2-4 times in place before using his spike ball attack. The Screw Crushers are weaker than his melee attack, but they're still powerful, and Mega Man won't survive four hits from them.

It should be noted that when Punk starts throwing Screw Crushers, he will start the battle throwing them on the way down. However, as the battle progresses, Punk will change his attack timings very slightly, in which case he'll start throwing them at higher altitudes, followed by him throwing them nearly right after he jumps. These attack timings will reset when he eventually throws 2 Screw Crushers in one jump. However, it takes a long time to get to this point (2-3 minutes), so it's only noticeable if you try surviving the fight.

Weakness

Punk does not have a weakness: only the Mega Buster can damage him, both normal and charged shots, the latter doing 3 damage. It's best to charge when he is in spike form and release once he gets out. Players should be cautious with the Screw Crushers, because they will also ding your shots.

Mega Man V

Punk is fought inside the Wily Star as the third of four bosses coming from previous Game Boy titles.

Attack pattern

Punk is generally easier in this game as his attacks and defenses are weaker. His compact ball attack is slower in movement speed, and the telegraph of which elevation he will charge from is made clearer and thus, easier to anticipate. Punk also only throws Screw Crushers at the apex of his jump this time. The Screw Crushers are now loosely aimed at Mega Man's position.

Weaknesses

Punk now has a real weakness this time around, which is Salt Water. This weapon can defeat him in 5 hits, and can easily fly past his Screw Crushers to hit him, even if it misses. Punk is also weak to Bubble Bomb, which defeats him in 7 hits and is more applicable up close.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)

Punk first appears in issue 20 of the Mega Man comic by Archie Comics. He and the rest of the Mega Man Killers and the Genesis Unit invade the Chronos Institute alongside Dr. Wily, and are held in reserve when Mega Man's approach is detected. He and his teammates appeared again during the events of Worlds Collide, in which they battled Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog's team aboard the Wily Egg. Punk initially annoyed Sonic with his spinning move's similarity to Sonic's trademark attack, but the Hedgehog later tricked him into using it to destroy Enker. Punk was then destroyed by the group of heroes along with Ballade, though Sonic's sidekick Tails was gravely injured as a result.

Other

Punk appears in the manga Rockman World 3, Rockman: Yomigaeru Blues, and Rockman 4Koma Dai Koushin.
